The Perfect Black Jean

So as much as I am still very much wearing shorts and dresses almost exclusively my mind has started to wander. I really want a perfect pair of black jeans.

I already own 2 pairs of black jeans but neither fit that great. The first pair are a JCREW matchstick pair and I talk about why I am not in love with the fit (they cut across the worst spot on my waist) in this video HERE. The other pair are just a $19 Joe Fresh find but they always fall down and I really want a pair that fit well in the waist!

For years I wouldn’t be caught dead in black jeans but I have a thing for Parisian street style and Emanuelle Alt basically epitomizes this style. And yes she wears black jeans and is photographed in them endlessly.

1. Hart Reyna Jeans

2. Skyline Ankle Peg Straight Jeans

3. Portland Black High-waisted Straight Leg Jeans

4. Le Luxe Noir stretch-satin twill skinny jeans

5. Cheap Monday Second Skin Jeans

6. Superfine Clean Trouser Jeans

7. BLK DNM Skinny Jeans

8. 6397 Loose Skinny Jeans

9. Madewell High Riser Skinny Skinny Ankle Jeans in Onyx Wash (my fave)

I picked the Madewell style as my favourite for two reasons.

First I own a pair in the same style but in a bright yellow and the fit is really good. The waist is high enough that there is no muffin top but not above the belly button high. Even though Madewell & JCREW are effectively the same company Madewell does denim better.

The second reason is of the colour. It isn’t an overly saturated black nor is it so faded that it is more grey than black. To me it is the best of both worlds for a perfect black jeans.

Did you find the Madewell jeans in this style fit big? I am ordering from Toronto but am nervous about fit from the reviews. Do they fit like j crew jeans?

It depends how you want them to fit. Mine do not fit super tight. If you want a really body hugging skinny jean then size down 1 size. They have alot of stretch so they should still be comfortable.

The new midrise JCREW jeans fit similar but I find madewell jeans are a much nice fit than JCREW over all. JCREW tends to have lower rises that cut right across the hips in a really unflattering spot. Great for boyish hips not for girly curves.

I think I'll have to try those Madewell's when September comes! I have a pair of Seven for all Mankind's that I've worn to death. And I would totally buy them again, if I could ever find them : )

Isn't that always the way though? You try to find a jean by the same manufacturer and they have gotten rid of the style or it just doesn't fit as good as the old ones?! I like 7s too, I have a pair in coated black but for an every day jean Madewell are great :)

I am in love with my Fidelity's in a fabric called Ginza. I have them in Ace which is a skinny ( almost legging style) and Belvedere a higher rise skinny. LOVE this fabric
