The Curated Classic Coat Review

The Curated is known for making luxury items at relatively affordable prices without all the markup of a luxury brand. Their first and probably best known item is the Classic Coat. It is that elusive perfect wool coat that goes with everything from dresses and trousers to jeans. It is the type of coat that elevates every outfit you wear. The Curated Classic Coat Review will share why I think you need this coat in your closet.

The Curated Classic Coat Review

I picked up the Classic Coat from the Curated last year and wore it through the fall winter season. It made the trip to Paris and wore it to work religiously.

I have the Classic Coat in Moss and it is an older style now as they have updated the sleeve length to be full length as opposed to more of a bracelet length.

The coat is unlined double faced wool style with a mix of 30% cashmere and 70% merino wool. The company sources end of run fabrics used by luxury companies which allows for less wasteful production and lower costs.

The Classic Coat can be worn belted or unbelted. I really like it either way. The belt is long enough to bow which I think is great too.

I am approximately 5’4 and the coat hits me just past my knees. This length of coat is super flattering don’t you think?

I got a size Large in the Classic Coat. This was before they had any sizes beyond large but I would say I like the look. It isn’t too oversized but I can still easily fit chunkier knits underneath. For reference I am usually a US 12. I did get the Tailored Coat in the XL and didn’t notice a lot of difference in the size however the two styles are cut differently.

This coat has more of a straight fit. Especially when compared to their Tailored Coat (reviewed here) which has a fit and flare a line cut. You really notice the straight cut when it is worn without a belt.

I wouldn’t say the fit is oversized but the fit is definitely roomy. I mentioned above I can fit knits underneath and not just the thin ones. Also the Large is supposed to fit like a US 10 and I am more like a US 12.

The sleeves are part of the reason this coat has such a forgiving fit. Many coats like this have slim cut arms but this coat has a looser arm. This allows room for layering.

I have had a few questions about how well this coat fares through the winter. I wore the Classic Coat from Fall to Spring. Cold winter months included. Because the coat allows for layering you can make it work for all weather. That being said this wasn’t the coat I wore to pick up my kids from school. I wore this coat for commuting and running errands not spending long days outside in knee deep snow.

Many people seem to pick the Classic Coat in Camel but I think it is just as amazing in the other colours. The last thing I needed was another belted camel coat! The moss colour I have has proven to be very versatile.

What do you think of the Curated Classic Coat review? Is this a coat style you want to add to your closet? I love everything about this coat, the colour, the cut, how it goes with everything in my closet! Definitely a great closet addition.

I bought the classic camel last year after reading the great reviews and have to say it has never been worn once. I hate that it has no lining and am seriously thinking of getting a tailor to add a lining. However, that would make it even more expensive. It looks good but just so impractical – not warm enough in winter and too warm in summer.

I have seen the owner post the Classic Coat with the lining and it totally changes the coat and not for the better in my opinion. It doesn’t drape as nicely with a lining. I am in Ontario and wore my Classic coat all the time in winter with a big scarf and sweaters layered underneath. I think it really depends on how you layer it. Of course I wasn’t wearing it walking to pick up my kids from school I would wear a parka for that. It is too bad that you didn’t wear it because it is a gorgeous coat! I have other double faced coats from Soia and Kyo that I haven’t worn much in comparison because the sleeves are so narrow you can’t layer underneath and it does make them unwearable in the coldest months.
