Spring Obsessions; moto boots, neon jeans, hi low skirts and more

It really feels like winter just started but when it comes to shopping I have moved onto spring. While this time of year is great for finding deep discounts, I am not that fond of shopping at the end of January and February as everything is so picked over and it is still too cold for real spring clothes.

In fact since most Spring fashions require much warmer weather I find that they are impractical without doing some serious layering until about May.

Still Spring is where my heart is, fashion wise anyways. I want florals and bright pops of colour. I want to shed my Sorels and wear cute flats and moto boots.

When it comes to my spring wardrobe there are 4 things I am lusting after.

First is neon yellow denim. Coloured denim has been huge for a few seasons now, and this spring expect to see lots of highlighter bright colours. If you want to do coloured denim but want something a bit more classic try an orangey red – it will look great with nautical stripes.

The next trend is the skirts that are short in the front and long in the back, the mullet skirt if you will. I first caught notice of this in some of the spring merchandise at Mendocino. At first I thought it was just a cool one-off, but turns out this trend will be HUGE. Some are subtle and easier to wear like the Zara dress above but others are more exaggerated with the “long in the back” being much more pronounced.

I have been obsessing more than usual over a short pair of moto boots. I really like the floppy open look of the Jeffrey Campbell boots. I think it is a great way to extend the wear of skinny jeans through the spring. Sure you can wear them with cute flats, but if you have a larger bottom, I find that skinny jeans look better tucked into boots. Plus I love the juxtaposition of pairing something feminine with something more manly or edgy like these boots.

Finally I need to get a spring jacket. I tend to over wear my North Face jacket to get through the rainy season but it isn’t exactly stylin. I can’t decide whether to go more classic and grown up with a trench, or a bit more casual with a military inspired jacket.

What are you obsessing over for spring??
