Aritzia Babaton Slouch Coat Review

Last Updated on November 6, 2023 by Jane

The slouchy top coat style has been super popular due to the iconic Max Mara styles. But the Max Mara price tag isn’t for everyone. Aritzia has done their version in camel hair wool mix. The Babaton Slouch coat is double breasted perfectly slouchy winter coat that comes in a range of browns and black. The Aritzia Babaton Slouch Coat Review will share the pros and cons of this coat so you can decide if you need it in your closet.

The Aritzia Slouch coat is an oversized coat with a dolman sleeve and is double breasted. My version of the coat is actually older in that it had three sets of buttons whereas the current version only has two. The top buttons were for show on my coat. The slouch coat buttons up fairly low at the mid section. That said it doesn’t have a deep open neckline.

This coat is a mix of camel hair and virgin wool. The texture is not as soft as my alpaca coat but is still pretty soft when compared to a regular wool coat. It is rated by Aritzia to -20 degrees celcuius. This coat is definitely warm and because of its slouchy style it has room to layer underneath. Based on my other Aritzia coats (here and here) I know that they can handle the coldest days.

I am wearing the deep camel colour which is gorgeous and a great option if you already have a traditional camel coat. A traditional camel coat is lighter than this deeper chestnut colour.

This coat is fairly long. I am 5’4 and you can see that the coat hits me at the lower calf. The model shows it hitting just below the knee so keep that in mind if you are taller. (Note that since I bought this coat certain versions now come in lengths)

If you are looking for a Max Mara dupe this is a great option at a fraction of the cost. I love the stitching detail, the way it drapes and how warm it is. Even the pockets feel soft and warm when you bury your hands in there which is such a nice feature.

The only think I don’t love about this coat is there is no back vent. It isn’t a big deal in a coat that is oversized like this one but I do prefer to have one.

Fit wise I took my normal size. This coat isn’t so oversized that you need to size down.

Hi Jane, very nice coat! I just wanted to let you know that I ordered the Zara seafoam hooded puffer coat, in a medium; unfortunately it was a bit too big for me. I have returned it and reordered it in a small, hopefully that will fit better. Otherwise I really like it - the quality looks good for the price, and it's nice and light. I probably won't wear it in deep winter - I have a very good parka for that - but it will be great for my walks in the neighbourhood in cooler fall and spring weather. Thanks again for the recommendation!

You are welcome! I found mine big as well (could have likely sized down to a medium) but kept it as is for layering. I agree the Zara coat from the other post wouldn't work for winter but great for fall and spring.
