Waxed Denim; 3 different brands of Waxed Coated Denim

I found myself in the Artzia change room yesterday trying on some premium waxed coated denim. I have become kind of obsessed with finding the perfect pair.

It all started with my pleather (or vegan leather if you prefer) pants ripped the other day. I hadn’t gained weight, in fact I am smaller than when I bought them last spring. But they were a motocross style which meant alot of seams and stitching. Pleather doesn’t exactly stretch like leather or denim, it pulls, so when I sat down on the bed they ripped.

Now I only paid $10 for these pants so I am not all that sad but still, these were the closest thing to leather pants I had, and I liked that edgy feel they had; sort of rock n roll.

But I didn’t like that they were PLASTIC pants. It gives me the creeps when people use the term vegan leather like wearing plastic is SOOOOO much better. But I digress.

So I had my one year old with me so I was only able to try on 3 pairs of black waxed denim before total meltdown, but it’s given me a head start on which pair to buy. Here’s what I found out.

waxed coated jeans denimFrom left to right: Rag & Bone/JEAN Zipper Legging Jeans, 7 For All Mankind Skinny Savannah Coated Jeans, Citizens of Humanity Rocket Leatherette Jeans

The first pair I tried on were the 7 for All Mankind. I am already a fan of 7s so I am not surprised they fit great. They were a lightweight denim coated to look like black leather.

The second pair I tried on were Rag & Bone. They weren’t overly different from the 7 for all Mankind pair except that I didn’t find the back pockets as flattering. This might also have had something to do with the lower rise.

The last pair I tried on were the Citizens of Humanity. These I should note really aren’t denim, but a thick legging like material. They were still coated, and super comfy, but I liked the feel of the lightweight denim over the legging. I found the denim gave more structure. I guess it depends on what you like in terms of feel. The Citizens would be perfect for someone who doesn’t like jeans.

I didn’t get a chance to try on the JBrand pair, but just doing a quick comparison they were more similar to the Citizens of Humanity pair in that they were legging material not denim. That said they were a lighter legging, the Citizens were quite thick.

I will say that I thought all of the styles were flattering, more so than any other skinny denim I have tried, so I will for sure be picking up a pair of waxed denim.

More waxed denim styles: (Note that Zara & Joe Fresh have bargain styles)

Are you shopping for waxed or coated denim? Which styles did you like best?

Did you buy a pair last year? How have they held up to washing?

I ended up getting the Yoga coated because they did a high rise. I need that high rise after having all those kids. The price point was a nice touch as well.

I wondered if they had a waxed jean, I did a quick search but didn't see them. Hmmmmm will have to look again. I don't like having anything too low either. I don't think I have lower abs anymore!
