The Nordstom Anniversary Sale; a Canuck perspective

Apparently the Nordstrom Anniversary Sale is THE sale of the year. And I get why everyone goes crazy for it; I mean fall goodies on sale before anyone else is even stocking fall in their stores! I am in for that.

So far there are only 2 Nordstrom locations in Canada; one in Calgary and one in Ottawa. Another is set to open in Vancouver this fall and next year the GTA stores start opening.

So what does this mean for Nordstrom Anniversary sale shopping for Canadians?

Well for one we don’t have early access. We can look buy no buying until the sale is open to everyone. My guess is once more stores start opening, especially the GTA ones in 2016 Nordstrom will launch a Canadian credit card and loyalty card and then it will be game on for early access shopping. Until then we must wait.

In fact on the Canadian version of the website the whole mention of the Anniversary sale disappears. To get a look of the sale you have to switch to the US version.

Apparently the good stuff sells out fast so if you have Early Access I would get on the shopping train NOW. Just return what doesn’t feel right or anything that you have buyers remorse for after you have given time to think it over.

nordstrom anniversary sale, fall coats 2015

Oversized Coat $47.90// Double Breasted Faux Fur Coat $249.90// Notch Collar Boucle Coat $139.90
Wool Blend Coat with Leather trim $464.90// Quilted Coat $594.90// Two Tone Cozy Coat $398.90

To me the coats are the winners of the sale. Or we are because we have access to so many gorgeous discounted beauties to add to our closets for the Fall Winter 2015 season!

I have picked out some trendy fun coats and some more classic options that you would have for years to come.

I love the look of that soft plaid car coat and at under $50 even if you hate it next year it wasn’t expensive!

This soft pink faux fur option is a coat that would steal the show with out being obviously trendy. I love the shape and the colour isn’t in your face pink.

The hot pink boucle coat is on the other hand very bold. But I think would be a coat that you would get lots of compliments on if you have the guts to try it out!

The other three options are classic. I like the longer length and the flattering shape they all have. The fur collar makes this one look SO luxurious. The quilting on this one makes it have an edgier feel than you usually get from a puffer jacket. And this waterfall belted coat is just lovely, a gorgeous option for something that you can just throw on over everything.

nordstrom anniversary sale, capes vests

Blanket Poncho $35.90//  Geometric Weave Cape $49.90//  Reversible Wool Angora Cape Coat $659.90
Black Faux Fur Vest $99.90//  Blanket Kimono Coat $229.90// Toggle Faux Shearling Vest $109.90

This next section is dedicated to capes and vests found in the Nordstrom Anniversary Sale. These are outfit makers. The items you put on to layer up and finish off an outfit to make it look really amazing.

While I am not a big fan of pairing this cape with the plaid shirt I do like that it is a easy black and white piece that will go with everything!

If you want a warmer neutral cape option this one is gorgeous and only slightly more expensive.

This cape coat is more of a splurge but it would be fabulous for work or church. It is definitely the more dressy option of the bunch.

I find that there are always many brown faux fur vest options but a really good black faux fur vest is harder to find. This one is amazing. I love the oversized collar.

Buffalo plaid can be hard to pull off. It always seems a bit lumberjack to me, but with this cape you get the bold pattern in a more feminine silhouette.

I am liking the faux shearling look of this vest. It is a new spin on the brown faux fur vest.

nordstrom anniversary sale, boots, bags

Norwayy Bootie $99.90// Short Moto Boot $285.90//  Saltwater Waterproof Boot $79.90
Chevron Love Cross Body $196.90//  Quilted Leather Tote $185.90//  Take Your Marc Crossbody $232.90

There is more to the Nordstrom Anniversary sale than just coats and capes and jackets. Bags and boots are a great option to shop as well.

These boots are the cool girl heeled black boot that I always wished I had. Totally worth picking up because you can never have too many black boots right?!

Same goes for these studded moto boots. SO COOL.

If you want to be a bit more practical investing in a great pair of waterproof winter boots are a great idea. These have the added impact of looking good.

I was a bit underwhelmed by the bag selection for the sale. Still this chevron crossbody is lovely, as is this similarly styled tote. I am loving the contrast trim on this crossbody.

The Nordstrom Anniversary Sale is also a good time to pick up basics. Check out the lingerie section to replace old worn out bras and undies. Check out the tees and classic sweaters to update the layering pieces that get worn more than anything else.

Honestly I am super jealous I can’t shop this sale because the prices do look pretty amazing. The question is will they look as amazing with duty, tax and shipping tacked on as well? Only time will tell!

I normally love the anniversary sale but this years' selection has underwhelmed me. I have only bought basics like underwear and workout clothes.

Yup. Also, duties and shipping. And thus far, I have not been able to get duties refunded to me if I end up returning a purchase.

This is why I am hoping with more store openings Nordstrom will end up doing like Gap and Zara et al - and open a Canadian only website that allows us to shop locally. It would lead me to buy alot more.

Great picks. Too bad the Canadian dollar is doing so poorly against the Greenback. Even with the sale prices, I'm not sure it's worth it. I've definitely cut back my cross-border shopping.

If I am going to be honest so have I. I have second guessed everything I have been looking at lately!

I think this sale will be more relevant to us once more stores open up here. Still assuming the prices are low enough it could be worth it to shop the sale. It is hard to know with a sale like this when there is no Canadian couterpart to compare it with.
