Get the Look: Simon Miller Bonsai Bag

I am looking ahead to spring summer and impractical but cool looking bags seem to be where it is at, especially the Simon Miller Bonsai bag. This bag has been around for the last few years but really seems to be making its way into affordable dupes for this upcoming season. In comparison to other designer bags that can put you back thousands of dollars the Simon Miller Bonsai bag is relatively affordable but still full price it is in the range of $700 to $800 CAD. All of the dupes I have found are around $100 or less. So lets get the look of the Simon Miller Bonsai Bag dupes.

  1. Bonsai Leather Bucket Bag – this is the real deal albeit since this red is a winter colour it is on sale right now for less.
  2. Petal Fold Bucket Bag – I like that while this bag is still a bucket bag it takes this trend and does it a bit differently. It comes in many colours and with a cross body strap.
  3. Laser Cut Bucket Bag – I love the lacy laser cut pattern on this bag. Feels very summery.
  4. Ursula Lucite Handle Tote – I just think this bag is so pretty. Really the only thing making it a dupe is the handle because the bag shape isn’t really that similar but it is a good look. Also comes in neutral shades.
  5. Lucite Handled Tote bag – this option is a slightly different shape but a pretty good dupe for the Simon Miller Bonsai bag. Also comes in an array of colours.
  6. Clear Wooden Handle Bag – this is the least expensive dupe on the list and it actually tackles two trends at once. It is so fun I have already ordered one.
  7. Talullah O-ring Crossbody – Another dupe that is a different shape but the handles really make the bag. This is a tiny fun option.
  8. Simon Miller Bonsai Bucket Bag – another real deal. This one is current season and full price.

Honorable mention go to this bag that is another really inexpensive dupe. The handle shape is a bit different which makes it more unique.

I like how the dupes try to make the bag a bit more practical with the addition of a cross body strap. Still I like the original for a more architecturally pleasing bag. The dupes just don’t have the same je ne sais quoi.

Which do you like better? The original or the Simon Miller Bonsai Bag dupes?

The handles make such a difference to what could be quite an ordinary bag. Love - Jill stylishatsixty x www.stylishatsixty.wordpress.com

OMG These bags remind me of a craft project from the 70's. You could honestly find some great upholstery fabric and make your own unique bag. I think a strap is a good idea. You might consider STAUD, they have similar styles, reasonable prices, but are also good quality. Take a look on Net-A-Porter and see what you think. If you still have your heart set on the Simon Miller, I'd buy it on the pre-loved market.

I do like the Staud's as well but there were so many good fast fashion dupes last year that I am not sold on them as a must have. And I think what sets the Simon Miller apart from the very 70's inspired carpet bags is the structure and the leather. The fabric would be a totally different look in my opinion but with the right fabric it could still be a really good look. These are definitely trendy.
