Ready for Fall – sort of

I am usually so pumped about fall fashions and trends that I am already obsessing and trying to hunt down items to buy. Last year I was lamenting how the cape trend wasn’t as popular with mainstream retailers as it was on the runways. And yet this trend now in its second year is starting to gain more traction amongst retails we can all afford!

I have found however this year pregnancy has altered my will to shop. I am not knee-deep in what I want and need for fall. I haven’t scoured all the September issues looking for what I absolutely must have. Even though baby will be making his/her appearance in a few short months I still can’t conceive of wearing anything but maternity jeans.

That said there are things I still would love to wear. Clothes I would rather be wearing than tired maternity clothes.

There are many many trends for fall from vibrant 60’s mod silhouettes, polka dots and plaid. But what I am looking forward to is channelling the 70’s in a modern way. The best thing about reinventing these 70’s classics is that they are done with modern and more natural fibres. No more ill-fitting polyester.
The first three things on my collage I don’t actually need because I invested in these pieces last year before I got pregnant. I need a new pair of jeans like I need a hole in my head. But I long decided that the wide leg or flare jean flatters my body type much better than skinny jeans. And while I think that skinny jeans look fab with a pair of boots I will never have more than one pair in my closet. This wide legged style however I have in multiples. And FINALLY they are back “in style”. Go get a pair – you will look gorgeous!
As I said earlier I was obsessed with buying a cape last fall and picked one up at Jacob during the loulou magazine shopping event. They are great for transition seasons like fall and spring but definitely not warm enough for the dead of winter unless you are just riding in the car somewhere.
I have seen countless episodes of What not to Wear where a blouse like the green one pictured about would be written off as “old ladyish” before Clinton & Stacey just encouraged/demanded the subject just try it on. The truth is these tops have seen a HUGE resurgence. Plus if styled with a wide legged jean or a slim fitting suit they look super modern. Trust me.
Out of all these items when I no longer have a big baby belly I am going to hunt down the perfect faux fur vest, one that looks a bit rocker without adding a ton of upper body bulk. I have seen ones at Zara that are great and the one pictured above is from JOE FRESH! Look for it now in stores.
Just like I live in sandals all summer, as soon as I must wear socks I live in boots. I tend to got with a lower heel but I love the colour and style of these stacked heel boots. They just complete the modern 70’s look. Pair them with a knee-length skirt, over skinny jeans or peeking out of a wide leg trouser. LOVE LOVE LOVE.
