Last Minute Halloween Costumes from your Closet

I don’t know how many times I haven’t really worried about having a Halloween costume until the day before and couldn’t think up anything good. Case in point that one year in highschool when I wore a black cape and an old blond wig from a dance recital. I wasn’t anything but I was dressed up.

Here’s to putting a bit more thought into a costume but still shopping in your closet!

Halloween Costumes from your Closet; Carmen Sandiego

Where in the World is Carmen Sandiego CostumeWow this brings back memories, my brother & I used to play the Carmen Sandiego games for HOURS. To make your own Carmen Sandiego costume all you need is a Trench Coat (Carmen Sandiego is often protrayed in red), a large brimmed hat, tall boots and an attache case. I would use the trench and hat I already have which aren’t red and the backgammon came or poker case for those files I just stole from Acme!

Halloween Costumes from your Closet; Tintin & Snowy

tintin halloween costumeOk so I spent alot of time reading Tintin as a kid too. I might get my husband to dress up as Tintin as we have everything in our closet already! All you need is a light blue sweater, brown trousers, a white golf shirt or button down, and some brown oxfords. Roll up your sleeves like Tintin, show some white sock and grab a white stuffed toy dog for Snowy. If it is cool Tintin has been known to wear a trench coat or a brown jacket as well. Have a friend? Get him to wear a captians hat and a navy turtle neck to be Capitan Haddock!

Halloween Costumes from your Closet; G.I. Jane

gi jane costumeCamo print is so on trend and you can take that trendiness and transform it into a Halloween Costume. Normally I wouldn’t say go find everything army inspired in your closet and put it on at the same time, but for G.I. Jane it works. Really all you need is a pair of camo pants (or army green pants), camo or army jacket and some Doc Martins or black lace up boots. If it’s cold layer up with a WWI inspired wool trench. This costume is easily adapted for guys as well. *** Head shaving not required ***

Halloween Costumes from your Closet; Lumberjack

lumberjack costumeAnother super easy costume you can quickly pull together from your closet is a Lumberjack costume. All you need is some flannel (red or blue), brown trousers, brown lace up boots and some suspenders. This costume can be easily tweaked to change it to a few other options. Add an ear flap cap and you could pull off Elmer Fudd, or unbutton that plaid shirt, wear some low slung boyfriend denim and you could be a Grunge Rocker.

Halloween Costumes from your Close; 80’s Rock Chick

This costume is more about the hair and makeup, but you will need some high-waisted skinny jeans (black, acid wash or leatherette), a fitted leather or denim jacket (think about adding shoulder pads!) and some sort of fabulous boots. You need to have BIG teased hair, up down bangs if you have them. Heavy eye makeup and frosted lipstick. If you are blond you can easily convert this costume into Sandy from Grease and the end of the movie.

Halloween Costumes from your Closet; Hippie Chick

If you have a closet full of boho blouses you can tweak your regular look to be a Hippie Chick for Halloween. High waisted flares (here, here or here) and boho blouse (here or here), birkenstock sandals or clogs all work together for the foundation of a hippie look. Wear a flower crown, round sunnies (here or here) and a peace necklace to finish the look. Don’t have a boho blouse? Try a rocker tee and a lace kimono (here, here & here) instead. Swap out the boho look for a fitted red tee, wingout your hair and carry a skateboard and go as a 70’s Farrah Fawcett.
