I’m Dreaming of a Beach Vacation …

I wonder why Bing Crosby never recorded that version of White Christmas? I can hear his deep voice singing it now. I’mmmmm dreaming of a Beeeach Vay-ca-tion, just like the ones I used to know…

Perhaps it is just because I am long overdue for some serious downtime sitting on a beach, not doing anything but soaking up the sun and reading a good book. The last time we went off to the beach on an all-inclusive vacation of some sort, I was pregnant with my daughter and she is now 3!

Sure we go to the cottage every summer and the beach there is gorgeous and kid friendly but it’s just not the same as sipping pina coladas on a white sand beach in the Caribbean.

And so it is March Break for Teachers and school age children and I am dreaming about what I would pack if I had somewhere to jet off to.

I used to always joke that all you need for a beach vacation is a bathing suit because that is all you wear while you are down in the Caribbean. Still there is a bit more to consider than that when packing for a beach vacation.

In addition to a variety of bathing suits I also like to have a variety of dresses. I like to use cotton jersey or tunics like this one from Madewell as a cover-up, and then something a bit more refined like a boldly printed dress for evening.

I usually only pack a small clutch for evenings and a beach bag that can handle everything from sunscreen to books and towels for a day at the beach. Oh and a great hat is a must as I tend to suffer from sunstroke if I am not careful.

Shoes are tricky. I like to have variety but I don’t want to weigh down my suitcase with all my shoe options. I usually pack a pair of kick on and off sandals for the beach, but I like the idea of using the gladiators, which look better and really only have one do up at the back. For evening choose a pair of shoes with alot of versatility like these black wedges.

Maybe I should just go and update my passport …
