Mixing Prints; Animal Print & Plaid

Honestly I would never have even thought to pair animal print and plaid before starting to read personal style blogs. On paper it sounds like a crazy combination. But trust me it works. I think because camel tones of the animal print (cheetah in my case) go so well with the orange and reds of the plaid.

I have been wanting to do a post about this combination for a while. Likely for about a year, since I spied it on Alicia from Cheetah is the New Black (back when she had brown hair) here & here.

plaid & animal print

This is one of those combinations that make people look at you twice. It is a bit Manrepeller-ish in that guys really don't get the whole plaid thing let alone plaid with animal print. Case in point my husband told me I was wearing alot of "Lumberjack" outfits lately. Whatevs...

I actually took some of Leandra's layering lessons to heart and purchased a mens plaid shirt so that I would get the shirt tails showing as many women's plaid shirts tend to be shrunken and you do not get the same effect. And PS heavyweight flannel is SUPER warm.

  1. What a great combination. I did polka dots and plaid last week and I had so many compliments on it. You look great!

    1. YES would love to see your interpretation of this with your Buffalo Plaid coat - even a leopard belt with your coat would be awesome!

  2. I've always been kind of squeamish about mixing prints, even when I see others doing it successfully. Maybe I'm brainwashed. Anyway, I love that animal print sweater. And the hat--I actually have the same one or one that's very similar.

    1. I find it easiest to mix with a similar pallet or just with accessories. This is admittedly the boldest I have done.

  3. I know only too well, the guys just don't get it sometimes! I had a leopard print jacket before and was told I look like a blindly dressed old aged pensioner, it made me laugh though. I can't get enough of print, I love that sweater very much regretting not checking out the sales yesterday

    1. lol, I have been watching for a leopard coat but every time I find one in a vintage shop I like it is WAY too big and I really do look a bit like an old age pensioner - one that is wearing someone elses clothing! The sweater does seem to have dissapeared during the sales.

  4. Love the print mixing...that loepard hat is ADORABLE!
I have a similar jacket that my husband says it lumber jack "chic"..I have taught him well, haha.
    Best to you.
