Summer Essentials Capsule Wardrobe

As winter is dragging on but at the same time starting to transition my mind wanders to what is next. Summer travel is top of my mind and with it what to pack. Those warm weather items that walk the line between casual and tailored. This summer essentials capsule wardrobe will be versatile enough to work for a European summer and a cottage weekend at the lake.

Summer Essentials Capsule Wardrobe

  1. Twin Doves T-shirt – I have a different tee from this brand and it is so cool. I love pairing it with wide leg linen pants or skirts for a kind of offbeat look.
  2. Beige Stripe tee – this is the type of tee that I end up buying in multiple colours. In fact the blue and white or black and white stripe would work just as well in this capsule. OR as an additional tee.
  3. Paris tee – give me a french slogan type tee and I am in. I also like this one if you want more colour.
  4. White tank – tank tops are not my favourite. But I like this square neck option. It comes off as a bit more polished. Less like an undershirt.
  5. Wide leg pants – I live in wide leg linen pants through the summer. Most of mine are black. I love this khaki green as an alternative.
  6. Denim shorts – I am all for a pair of cut offs but these look a bit more dressed up and I know they fit curvy bottoms really well. You can also take down the hem if you want them to be a bit longer.
  7. Chino shorts – These look a bit like the previous shorts but at a lower price point. I also like the light weight fabric for really hot days.
  8. Light wash denim – I know lighter washes have been more popular for a while now but to me they really work for summer.
  9. Printed skirt – I love a fun skirt and t-shirt combination. I usually wear some sort of slip short underneath so that I can walk easily without worrying about chafe. I feel like skirts can be just as comfortable as shorts but they look so pretty!
  10. Canvas tote – this tote is so versatile. I love the dual handles look.
  11. Black buckle sandals – I bought these recently and they are fabulous. The leather is so soft and they are very comfortable to wear. Plus they look like chicer Birkenstocks.
  12. Wide brim hat – a wide brim hat is a must for me in the summer. One trip many years ago I had a bout of heat stroke and now I am a wear a hat all the time person. I also like this if you are looking for a more bucket hat style.
  13. Platform sandals – I think these sandals are really chic looking. The platform makes them a bit more dressy compared with the buckle style. I think these are a nice alternative to an espadrille style that is also common for summer.
  14. Stripe shirt dress – A shirt dress is the ultimate versatile piece especially when travelling. Wear it at night with a leather belt. The next day wear it loose as a beach cover up. Roll up the sleeves or keep them down. So many options.
  15. Eyelet dress – most people talk about needing a little black dress. But I am team little white dress when it comes to summer.

Other items I would bring are sunglasses (these or these are favourites), a jean jacket or cardigan (maybe both?!), and a little cross body bag. Don’t forget to pack a swimsuit too!
