Everlane Belted Shirt Dress Review

Last Updated on March 20, 2019 by Jane

This dress has been in my closet since last fall. It is always selling out so I bought it off season when it was in stock and it sat there all winter. The first time I pulled it out was our vacation in May. I have a thing for stripe dresses. Shirt dresses in particular give a polished look for the office but also keep you cool in the summer. I am going to share my Everlane Belted Shirt Dress review to share what I like and don’t like about this dress from Everlane.

This dress is 100% cotton shirt dress with pockets made from an Oxford cloth that has structure but is lightweight enough for summer. It is collarless or rather has a mandarin collar which is a nice change from the usual collared shirt dresses out there.

One of the first things I noticed when I tried this dress on is that there is no way the average person can tie the belt like the model. I can tie it nicely in a bow once. However it will not go around my waist twice. My guess is they make the same size belt for all sizes and so if you are teeny maybe you can get the double wrap.

The dress is also a bit short. I am 5’4 and it falls above the knee on me so if you are taller keep that in mind. I do find it short when I am sitting down.

I really like the weight of the fabric. It is good quality and has structure. It allows the dress to keep its look even after washing.

Everlane says this is a more feminine shirt dress. I am not sure that I agree. Yes it is a dress so it is more feminine than a standard shirt but I think if they had made the skirt more an a-line cut it would be a more forgiving and feminine shape. The dress is straight cut so those of us with curves need to keep that in mind.

The other drawback of this shirt dress is the buttoning at the bust. There is plenty of fabric around the chest, there really isn’t any pulling however it looks as if there is because of the design.

The dress can also be worn as a tunic as I did in this post. This does add some extra versatility to the dress. While on vacation I wore this as a beach cover up in addition to wearing it out to dinner.

Outfit details: Shirt dress Everlane, pom pom espadrilles Soludos, bag H&M, earrings Bauble Bar.

Overall I like this dress but it isn’t my favourite. I prefer the shape of this dress more (or even this). Everlane’s minimal asthetic works most of the time for basics. I think with a few tweaks this dress could be amazing instead of just good.

What do you think of the Everlane belted shirt dress review? Is this a dress you want to buy?
