Big Vacation Shopping Try on

Let me first say I am well aware that I should have washed the mirror before I started taking pictures. My son still likes to make a mess of the mirror and I didn’t realize until I was almost done how bad it was. But I wasn’t starting over so you will have to bear with me with the mirror smudges.

We are counting down our trip to Punta Cana and I have been shopping exclusively for warmer weather. You know the kind of clothing I can’t wear yet! But if I wait much longer everything will be sold out so I thought a try on post would be perfect for sharing what I have collected.

jcrew gingham skirt

Oh Yea Vacay shirt – Is this shirt too on the nose to wear around an all inclusive resort? I don’t care I love it! Fits true to size I picked a large.

Gingham skirt – This skirt also comes in a blue stripe. I got the black gingham because it is fun and something I don’t have. I like the fit, I feel it is true to size. There is a zip at the back it is not elastic waist like many of the JCREW skirts form last year. The bow is only at the front so you can tie it once and not have to retie every time you take the skirt off. If you wanted you could also have the tie at the back but I prefer it at the front.

Red heels – these were from the latest JCREW release. They seem to be releasing smaller collections more frequently. They used to only have one release per month now it seems to be split in two. These have a moderate all day type of heel which is why I snapped them up. Also the ankle strap doesn’t cut off at the ankle it is lower more on the foot so you get a longer leg. Love these, they come in gold and black I believe and I would recommend. Ignore the review on the website. The colour is red not rust.

hm red stripe tshirt dress

Red Stripe t-shirt dress – I love t-shirt dresses. They are great for vacation to throw over a bathing suit. This one is great quality considering it was only $30. I have similar weight tops and dresses that cost easily twice as much. I like that this is red too not the traditional blue. I ordered this in the large. I find it roomy right now but H&M products tend to shrink so don’t size down. I couldn’t find this one online so check in store.

Soludos Minorca sandal – These have the lower ankle strap like the red heels above but they are a platform sandal so they are much less dainty. These sandals feel funky and cool. They are a bit clompy to walk in. I find these true to size, I ordered an 8.

Straw hat – I totally didn’t need another summer hat but this was different than what I have and I like the ribbon detail. I have the M/L and I find it fits snug so keep that in mind when ordering.

HM wrap dress

Wrap Dress – I have almost bought so many wrap dresses this year but have talked myself out of so many because of the cleavage issue. So many of the beachy wrap dresses I have seen don’t really offer much coverage. Which is fine if you are not that well endowed but the rest of us look a bit too chesty in a deep v wrap. I was pleasantly surprised with this dress that I was able to arrange it for full coverage without a camisole or pinning it in place. That is a major win in my book. It is also super affordable and the placement of the wrap just above the waist is super flattering. I also find the flutter on the sleeve to be flattering too, minimizing the upper arm area.

The heels I shared my review above and the tassel earrings are old but a vacation favourite.

jcrew stripe dress

Ruffle Sleeve Dress – yes another stripe dress! But there is enough different going on here that I don’t really see it as duplication. The most obvious is the colour. But the ruffle detail on the sleeve is what drew me to this dress. JCREW has been doing this style for a few years now and I finally got on board. The shape is more slim or straight cut than the H&M dress above which is aline.

Bautista Wedges – If I was to do this again I would pair these wedges with a different outfit. I feel they would go better with the wrap dress or white jeans or skirt and the blue version of the stripe shirt below. Still I wanted to show them off. These feel more like heels than the platform sandals above and they are more dainty to wear. They also come in pink but there is very limited sizes in that colour.

stripe jcrew shirt

Stripe button down – I love this shirt so much I bought it in the blue as well. It is light weight for hot summer days. The arms are also very relaxed making it easy to roll them as shown. But I also like them down all the way too. The fit is fairly relaxed so no pulling in the chest area.

The skirt is old from last year and the platforms I reviewed above.

I have also been returning quite a bit. I bought these jeans and they were aweful. The denim was too stretchy so unless you are skinny like the model they don’t retain the shape like a heavier denim would have. I returned this dress too. The fit was terrible. And so awkward to get on. I have returned quite a bit to Zara too. I keep the stuff I order for my kids and send back the rest. I ordered this dress and while I like it I won’t be taking it on vacation. I will get lots of wear of it at the office.

I am really tempted to order this bag. The price is a bit high though as I could get a knock off at Zara for $40.

Have you been buying for spring and summer? OR are you waiting?

May I ask how tall you are? I am trying to figure out if the dresses would be as long on me as I need all the length I can get:)
