What I wore on my face this week

I mentioned in one of my last posts that I have been making an effort to actually wear makeup every day to work. It has actually worked wonders in terms of my self esteem throughout the day. Just like a good hair day or a great outfit can make you feel good so can putting your best face forward.

While I never really hated the way I looked first thing in the mornings after doing my hair I was more likely to look in the mirror and think wow you look tired. Then I would throw on some sunglasses and drive on with my day. But as the day went on the more tired looking I looked and that can be a bit of a let down.

I know the girls who always wear makeup are thinking DUH. But I have really been liking my quick makeup for the office that I have been doing regularly.

So I thought I would share what I wore on my face this week. Also we are having a massive freezing rain storm so the likelihood of an outfit post is pretty low. I mean freezing rain storm in April, WTF right? This is the kind of weather that gives Canada a bad name.

Base

Dr Dennis Gross– I have been trying out a few different tinted moisturizers. The wonderful lady at the Sephora near me suggested a few different brands. The one that I have been wearing most of all is the Dr. Dennis Gross Instant Radiance Anti Aging tinted moisturizer. It doesn’t feel like I have makeup on at all but provides a great base and evens out my skin tone. I have also tried this and this from First Aid Beauty but I prefer the Dr. Dennis Gross version as it feels the lightest on my face and leaves it feeling lovely.

First Aid Beauty Eye Duty Triple Remedy – I have been alternating between the First Aid beauty and this from Urban Decay. I tend to use the FAB option if I feel like I still have puffiness I want to get rid of. While the Urban Decay option is better for concealing imperfections or redness.

Eyes

NArs Velvet Shadow Stick – this is how I get my makeup together fairly quickly in the morning. I cut out a bunch of time because I use this cream eyeshadow stick. The colour I have is Oaxaca and it is a perfect shade for day. Kind of a cross between grey and brown.

Laura Mercier – to give my eyes a bit of a brighter more open look I have been using the rose gold shade from Laura Mercier as a bit of a highlighter shade. I put a bit of this at the inside of the eye and the crease/brow bone and blend it. You could also try Hollywoodland from Nars for the same effect.

Mascara

Monsieur Big Mascara – This mascara is pretty fantastic. I don’t use the base on a regular day as it is just another step and you have to careful not to make it clumpy. I like the results of this mascara on it’s own, but I do get bigger results with the primer. I have also been trying out this lash serum but I haven’t been using it long enough to see any results yet.

Cheeks

Bronzer – I have an old Smashbox palette with a bronzer I still use. I use it on the hollows of my cheeks then on the jawbone and a bit on the forehead. Just gives a nice glow.

Becca Mineral Blush – I love the feel of this blush on my cheeks. It gives just enough colour in real life to give a flush. I could layer it up for more umph but I am trying for a barely there look. I have the Flower Child colour which is the perfect pinky peach colour.

Lips

Nars Red Square – I like a pop of colour with lipstick but it makes for messy good bye kisses in the morning dropping the kids at the bus. There were days that I would just wear lipbalm but the Nars Velvet Mattes don’t transfer all that easily so they are perfect. This old post shows the difference between Red Square and Heat Wave (another popular Nars colour). every day makeup look

Do you have any go to products for your every day look? I try to keep it pretty natural partially because of my day job is pretty conservative but also I have minimal skills in makeup application! I just want my skin to feel clean and free which is hard when you are piling on the products but my skin feels good with all of this so I recommend.
