What I have been buying & returning

It is that time of year that I stock up on all the colder month items that come out into the stores. Usually by now I would have bought some scarves that I couldn’t wear regularly for a month but I am pretty proud of myself for admitting I have more scarves that one woman could ever need. But that hasn’t stopped me from shopping for other fall winter items. Allie over at Wardrobe Oxygen does these hits and misses posts which I love. They are so informative. I thought I would do one for your too since I have sent a few things back and kept a few others lately.

buying and returning lately

Hits & Misses lately

  1. Vintage Straight Trouser Jean – I had high hopes for these jeans. I loved the trouser jeans that JCREW brought out last year. I thought a straight leg version would have been just as flattering. And they would have been had they been a true straight leg. However on me they were more of a skinny leg jean just one that didn’t taper at the ankle. I fell like whomever designed these either missed the mark with the description or when they sized up the style they didn’t get the measurements right. A straight leg would be straight from the hips down, these were not. If you have slim legs these might be better for you. These were not a good fit for my body. MISS.
  2. Charlize jacket – I was overjoyed when I saw this coat. The colour is amazing and look at that collar. I had such good luck with Aritzia coats last year I gave this one a try. The quality is amazing and wool actually feels soft. But the coat was too large in the shoulders and not wide enough through the but and hips. It was made for someone taller and broader through the shoulders. But slimmer through the body. I have already returned this coat. MISS.
  3. High rise ankle fit jean – I have been all about the straight leg jeans lately. I like that these are in black as an alternative to blue all the time. The fit on these are fantastic. They are a true straight leg and are the perfect style for wearing with flats. They are not cropped on me but more of an ankle cut. I love the weight of these jeans and the washed out black. These are a HIT (see them here).
  4. White belted coat – I have a navy coat similar to this one and I really thought the white would be fabulous. And it almost was. I didn’t love the collar and I should have gone for a size down. Returned/ MISS
  5. Cashmere Square Turtleneck (gifted) – I have this same sweater from a few years ago when it was made in a merino wool. When I saw they had remade it in cashmere I had to have it. In fact I had it in my cart to buy myself when Everlane reached out and the brass colour was on the list of stuff to try. And it is so good. I love that the turtleneck is a bit looser and you don’t have to roll it down. It is cut a bit boxy but if you are wearing it with high waisted trousers it will be perfect. HIT.
  6. Boss Boot in Snake (gifted) – Yes I have an older pair of these boots in the pebbled leather but the snake is trendy and so cool looking I had to give them a go. And they are fantastic. The leather isn’t as soft as the pebbled but it is still fantastic. HIT.

Since none of the coats I have tried this year have really worked out (except the one in this post, it is gorgeous) I ordered this one. I am worried it will be too oversized but all we can do is try right? I like the look of this too and snagged it for 20% off.
