This is the point in the season that I am tired of summer. My summer outfits, the heat. Retailers are starting to push back to school and fall but it is still very much summer. This is when I start mixing things up. I pull some older clothes to the front of the closet and pair them with things I haven’t worn together in the past. Here is how I am shopping my closet and wearing old favourites.
I have had the stripe linen pants for a few years and the old Banana Republic tee might be older still. The thing is I never thought to put these two things together before. I used to pair these pants with white blouses pretty routinely.
But with my grey hair I don’t always love the look of white blouses the way I used to. I prefer colour on top. It pops more against my hair. This rusty brown works well as it still keeps the outfit looking neutral but it doesn’t wash me out.
This outfit won’t set the world on fire but what I liked about it was that it was something new without actually shopping for something new. Because it wasn’t how I usually paired these pieces it felt fresh. It was also super comfortable. The slub tee, which I wish Banana Republic would make again although maybe with a bit of a longer or different sleeve, is one of my favourites. I bought a bunch of these when they originally made them in different styles and colours. And linen pants I basically live in right now as they are light and breezy for summer.
The rest of the outfit, the bag and shoes I have reviewed recently here and here.
Lately I have been shopping less. Trying to talk myself out of buying things I don’t need and wear more of what I already have. It is a work in progress. Shopping my closet instead and mixing and matching things differently is helping with that. Even just trying on what I have helps too. Especially when looking forward to a new season. Doing that satisfied my want for new jeans. I realized I had many pairs, they still fit so what exactly was I looking for? Plus I wasn’t going to wear jeans regularly again for a few months still so what is the rush? It can be easy to get caught up in the sale hype and the new season hype but we don’t have to listen, all the time anyways.
How do you rewear what is in your closet. Do you mix and match to rethink what is in there? Or do you always stick to your tried and true combinations?
