Modern Fair Isle

I am not sure if it is the time of year that I am embracing my inner prep or that there are just so many good options out there right now but I am loving fair isle sweaters. They remind me of ski season and perfectly staged Christmas photos.

  8. Christmas Jumper In 70s Retro Fairisle (more fun Christmas sweaters)
  9. Fjallraven Fair Isle Jumper

Obviously the more red or stars or even reindeer that are incorporated into the patterns the more Christmasy these sweaters look. That and layering a plaid shirt underneath!

That is why I am loving the grey options as they seem to have more longevity past the Christmas season. Because these sweaters don’t just scream Holiday they say winter loud and clear. Still pair these sweaters with a long and wide flare and somehow they are going to look modern and not something you wore in the 80’s with your younger brother in a matching siblings picture. Or was that just me?

This isn’t the first time I have talked at length about fair isle looking new again, back in 2012 I felt as if these sweaters were reinvented and here I am a few years later thinking the same thing. Just proves how cyclical fashion is however I really do think that fair isle is more than just a trend. Just like plaid appears every fall, so do these patterned sweaters every winter.

What do you think about these sweaters? Are they too preppy for your tastes? Or are they something you just bring out for the Holiday pictures?
