The Frances Skimmer is a reworked version of Madewell’s Frances Loafer. It is a softer, bendier version with lots of cushion to make them easy on the feet. Madewell Frances Skimmer Review
I was browsing the new arrivals a few months back and was drawn to the shoes more so than the jeans or tops. It was a particular pair of pointy flats that I kept coming back to. I have done well with Madewell boots and sandals but didn’t have any of this skimmer type shoe. After wearing winter boots for months, these were exactly the type of shoe I wanted to wear now that we didn’t have snow on the ground constantly.
The fit of the Madewell Frances Skimmer is true to size. I chose an 8. Which tends to be what I wear most of the time except in Everlane shoes which I tend to size up. The 8 was perfect without being snug.
The shoes are leather lined which is a must for me these days. I don’t like the feel of pleather lined shoes as they aren’t as soft and there isn’t as much give. These Madewell skimmers are the opposite. They are soft and stretch to your foot.
The cushioning on the foot bed is a great touch. Makes the shoes feel very high end because you are walking in comfort.
The first day I had some rubbing but no elaborate blisters formed. I did only wear these shoes to the office though. I didn’t go for long walks. Personally I would save these shoes for the office or errands. I wouldn’t consider these walk all day shoes unless you had them very well broken in. Even then pointed toe flats aren’t my first choice as walking shoes. But they do look cute with jeans or trousers for work.
I am not sure why but I found the calf hair version slightly more comfortable straight out of the box on the first wear.
Top Three Reasons to Buy
- Flattering shape. I am a sucker for a pointed toe but these are a really great pointed toe shoe. It is such a flattering shape on the foot.
- Great quality. These shoes are made of quality leather and lined in leather too. You can feel quality shoes when you put them on because they feel study and comfortable.
- Fun options. I mentioned at the beginning of this review that I liked these shoes so much I bought two pairs. One in English Saddle which is super classic and one in the spotted calf hair because I have a weakness for leopard. They also come in another calf hair version that has smaller spots, black, white and snake.
Lately I have been wearing these with skinny jeans and a trench coat. They are a great option for spring. I also plan to wear them with skirts and dresses in the warmer months.
