J CREW Curvy Jeans Review

Last Updated on March 20, 2019 by Jane

J.Crew recently launched larger sizes for some of their designs in an attempt to capture more of the women’s clothing market. It is a smart move because the average women’s size is actually larger than most of what JCREW sells. Size inclusivity is becoming more popular for retailers. As part of this push JCREW launched their curvy jeans. As someone who is wearing a size 12 or 32 in jeans I definitely fall into the curvy category and I wanted to see if they were in fact different from their regular toothpick jeans. This is my J Crew Curvy Jeans ReviewJ crew curvy jeans review

J CREW Curvy Jeans Review

I have been raving about the J. Crew toothpick jeans with the 9 inch rise for the last few months. One of my main pet peeve of the older matchstick jean was where waist hit my body with a shorter rise. The higher rise transforms the toothpick jean into my ultimate skinny jeans.

So when the Curvy toothpick jean launched I wondered what the difference were? I am a curvy girl will this fit better or is it essentially the same jean?

JCREW Curvy Toothpick Jean vs the regular Toothpick Jean

There are three differences between the Curvy toothpick jean and the regular toothpick jean from JCREW.

The first difference is the waist is more defined in that the jeans nip in more at the waist. These jeans are great for someone who has a true hourglass figure where you have a tiny waist and larger hips and bum.

I noticed this difference right away when I put on the jeans as they felt smaller at the waist than what I was used to with the regular toothpick jeans. At first I wanted to return the jeans but after wearing them for a while I appreciated the smaller waist as my jeans stayed at my waist better than the other style.

I confirmed my suspicions buy laying the curvy toothpick jeans on top of a regular toothpick jean and the waist definitely nips in and is smaller than the traditional toothpick jean.

If you are someone who always has a back gap in the waist of your jeans you might want to try the curvy style. However if you carry weight at your waist you might find this style not to your liking.

The second difference between the curvy toothpick jean and the regular toothpick jean from JCREW is the pockets. The back pockets on the curvy toothpick jean are larger than the regular toothpick jean. Not sure the reasoning behind this but they do make your bum look good.

The third difference between the curvy toothpick jeans and the regular toothpick jeans from JCREW is the size range. Now I think this is changing but the traditional toothpick jean in certain washes tops out at a size 32. But I noticed that some of the washes (like the classic rinse) now go up to a size 37. So I do think for the more popular rinses anyways the size range is coming but it is not there for all styles and washes.

I didn’t list this as a difference but the Curvy toothpick is actually a 10 inch rise whereas the style I tend to buy is a 9 inch rise. However you can get the regular toothpick in this higher rise if you want so that is why I didn’t see it as a true difference.

So what do I think of the J CREW Curvy Jeans review? Would I buy this style again? Sure if the wash I wanted was there. But for my body there isn’t really a need to buy this style over the regular toothpick jean from JCREW. I think if you have a more pronounced difference between your waist and hips you definitely want to try this style.

Have you tried the Curvy Toothpick jean from JCREW? What do you think of this style?

I am so glad they have finally extended their sizes! As someone who falls between 12 and 14, there were times I would get sized out and it was so frustrating, especially with the skinny jeans. I have already bought a pair of Madewell high rise skinnies and will definitely be buying some J. Crew skinnies in the future! Thanks for this review :)

You are so welcome. I also think it is great because I am hoping that since they are extending the size range they are going to spend time perfecting the fit on the larger sizes. As a size 12 the designs don't always translate as well when they get sized up.
