How to make a Black Coat more Festive

When I am out walking or standing on a subway platform it is quickly obvious that most people gravitate towards a black coat. The sea of black is vast. So while I may choose to make a festive look with a red coat or a white coat most people have black coats. Black on it’s own isn’t overly festive so how do you get in the spirit with your regular black coat?

How to make a Black Coat more Festive

Add Red – adding a red scarf is probably the easiest way to subtly add a bit of Christmas Cheer to an outfit. But you could add a red sweater, a red hat.

Wear Plaid – adding a plaid scarf is another surefire way to look more festive. Make sure that your plaid is predominantly Christmas colour based so a red, green and white plaid. Stuart Tartans are one of my favourite options and they tend to be popular at this time of year. Note that the plaid doesn’t have to be predominately red. The black plaid scarf also works!

Christmas Colourblock – This option is much less subtle. And usually I have my coat to work with the entire look. So this means instead of just adding red to your accessories you would add red and green. Or red green and white. So maybe you are wearing a red sweater underneath the coat. Then you could add a white had and a green scarf. The black coat keeps the look more subtle than the ones I shared here.

Do you try to dress Christmassy? Or am I the only one?
