Everlane Day Market Tote Review

I carry totes mostly for my day job. They allow me to lug files to and from the office. I find myself carrying them even when I don’t need to carry files just to be able to carry lunches and extra layers without weighing myself down. Totes are great for travel too for the same reasons. My latest tote is from Everlane. The Day Market tote is their largest tote option and is also known as the Meghan Markle tote since she carried it before she was Princess Meghan. Sharing my Everlane Day Market Tote review so that you have all the details before you make a decision.

Everlane Day Market Tote Review

The Everlane Day Market Tote comes in 7 different colours (mine is called Saddle) and measures 19″x16.5″x13. The handle is long enough to easily carry over your shoulder but not so long that if you carry it in your hand it drags along the ground.

This tote is structured without being heavy. Most structured totes I have carried are stiff. This one is lightweight and soft despite the structure. The leather is not lined which adds to the lightness. The slightly rectangular shape fits a laptop easily. I found it carried loads of files to and from the office.

Personally I find the structured shape to look a bit more professional. Also the smooth leather looks polished. And a bonus it hasn’t easily scratched.

While there is one interior pocket it is really one of those do nothing pockets. You could stash a small something in there like some tissue or a lipstick but it isn’t really going to help your tote be more organized. There is no zip closure or closure of any kind.

Everlane Day Market Tote VS Cuyana

The Cuyana tote has similar dimensions to the Everlane Day Market Tote but they are made of different leathers. The Everlane tote favoured by Meghan Markle is made of smooth Italian leather. The Cuyana tote is also Italian leather but it is soft pebbled leather. The Cuyana tote is also very slouchy and unstructured. Both of the core colours of the totes are neutral but Cuyana has been known to add some colourful options especially around the holidays. The Cuyana totes used to be made in the USA but are now made in Turkey and Argentina. Everlane’s tote is made in Italy. Everlane Day Market Tote VS Gigi New York

The first good leather tote I bought when I started back to work after kids was a Gigi New York Teddie Tote. It is embossed python. The size is slightly smaller than the Everlane Day Market Tote but it is lined with leather and has been updated since I bought mine to include a zippered middle section. The Teddie Tote is structured but heavier in a way due to the lining. The Gigi New York totes are made in the USA and there is a mixture of neutrals and bright colours. When it comes to what tote to choose you have to ask what properties you like better? Do you prefer structure or soft and slouchy? Is size a factor or do you want a zipper closure? The Everlane Day Market tote falls between the two. The Cuyana tote is very slouchy whereas the Gigi New York Teddie tote is very structured. The Everlane tote is structured but not as stiff and heavy it is more lightweight and malleable while still maintains its structure.
