This past spring I decided to actually buy a makeup bag set. I had never done this before, instead just using the gift with purchase bags for my toiletries and makeup. While frugal I never really felt like these gift with purchase bags fit my aesthetic. Practical but not what I really would choose. And so I decided to bite the bullet and just buy a set that I actually liked. This is my Cuyana Makeup Bag Review.
Cuyana Makeup Bag Review
Cuyana is known for their slogan of Fewer, Better. The idea being, instead of buying many mediocre things buy fewer better quality things that last for a long time.
I already have the Cuyana tote and knew that the quality of this makeup case would be fantastic.
Technically this Cuyana set is the Cuyana Leather Travel Case set. You could use it for electronics or other items you are trying to organize but truly it is going to be used by most people as a toiletries or makeup bag.
It is a set of two pouches one larger in size than the other. Both made of leather and even lined with leather. I purchased the blush set which is more of a nude colour with a faint pink tone.
Cuyana does give you the option to personalize the travel case set with monogram if you so choose.
The Cuyana leather travel case set has these leather tabs at the bottom. It serves as a stabilization feature so that the contents of your makeup bag don’t easily spill out.
My favourite feature of the Cuyana makeup bag is the zipper. It is a heavy duty gold tone zipper and it zips fully from one end of the pouch to the other. Anyone who has struggled to find something at the bottom of their bag knows this is an amazing feature. Small openings make for harder packing. This pouch opens so wide.
The small pouch is actually quite generous in size. For weekend trips this is what I use as it is all I need. As you can see it fits full sized makeup brushes. I was able to get my full sized Drunk Elephant serums in here as well but some full sized tubes are too long.
For longer trips I use this pouch for makeup and use the larger one for skin care and hair products.
The larger pouch is very large. It easily fits a full sized brush and full sized hair products. All of your full sized skin care tubes will fit as well. If I am feeling a bit more high maintenance I will use this instead of the small pouch. For example if I was going to the cottage I would just use the small pouch. If I was going on a road trip to say Quebec I would take the larger pouch as I am more likely to want all my hair products with me on that type of trip.
Any time I am going away for somewhere for a week or longer I will use both pouches, one for makeup and one for other toiletries.
I haven’t used these for my tooth brush and tooth paste as with the leather lining I prefer to use something that is plastic or machine washable.
So the end result of my Cuyana makeup bag review is a recommend. It may seem like an expensive purchase but you get two bags for the price tag. The leather is gorgeous and the type of leather that will look better with time. The best feature is the generous size (even on the small pouch) and the full zipper opening.
