Varley Raincoat

Rain is in the forecast and that means it is time to pull the rain coats out of the closet. I prefer to wear a raincoat over carrying an umbrella because it means I stay hands free. But when it comes to rain protection not every rain coat is equal. Some are only water resistant not water proof. This is the issue I had until I upgraded to the Varley Raincoat.

Varley Raincoat

There are three factors that make the Varley Raincoat a good closet addition. It is fully waterproof, not just water resistant. It has a good deep hood. And it is long enough to provide fully protection.

The fabric is a Polyurethane lamination with taped seams which give the waterproofing. The pockets fully zip and also have a flap so that if you don’t have the pockets zipped they are still protected.

Size wise I am in the XL. Varley considers the XL to be a US size 12 but I would say in general everything I have tried (sweatpants here, sporty jacket here, sweatshirt here) fits larger than a standard size 12. Even this coat fits loose which I prefer. The description is that the coat is oversized. I think the oversized sizing works well so that layering can happen. I can easily fit a chunky knit under this coat which in spring or fall is something you want to have room for.

This raincoat has a vented back, storm flaps, dropped back hem. There are buttons on the sleeves to adjust them to fit smaller. Good for keeping out the rain if it is really coming down. The hood also has a toggle to adjust as well. There is a brim on the hood which means the rain falls away from the face when dripping.

Overall I am really happy with the Varley Kirsten Raincoat. It has all the things I want in a raincoat as someone who hates going out in the rain.

Varley also has a shorter rain jacket that hits just past the hips. Also waterproof with a hood and adjustable waist.

There is a new long jacket as well that doesn’t have the curved high low hem.

There is also a lighter water resistant coat as well.

What do you think of the Varley raincoat? Is this a style you have in your closet?
