5 ways to Style a Printed Skirt

Whenever I buy something I want to make sure that is going to be a versatile item in my closet. Sometimes that is easy. Black linen pants go with everything. Jeans go with everything. But a printed skirt can be more tricky. I have 5 different full proof ways to style a printed skirt, no matter the print.

Probably the most obvious way to style a printed skirt is with a white top. It doesn’t have to be a more frilly blouse like what I have shown here. A white tee would work too. This is particularly true with this skirt because of the white background.

Outfit 1: Blouse (this is similar) // skirt // sunglasses // earrings // sandals

Styling with a black top is another obvious answer. Black like white goes with pretty much everything. With this skirt though black is one of the colours in the print. I could have just of easily picked blue or purple as the black. If you are ever wondering what colour to pair with something printed, just pick one of the colours in the print for a no fail combination.

Outfit 2: tee // skirt //sunglasses // sandals // earrings

Pairing a denim shirt with a print is another great option. I feel like 8 years ago this might have been a no brainer but I don’t see denim shirts being paired with everything these days. But it is still such a good option.

Ok so we got the more obvious pairings out of the way first. Now it is time to get a contrasting coloured top with your printed skirt. For me that often means a red top but it doesn’t have to be red. It could be green, hot pink or orange. But you really can’t go wrong with a pop of red.

Outfit 4: similar red top // skirt // sandals //belt // sunglasses

This combination my be my favourite of the bunch. Pairing a stripe top with a bolder print is print mixing 101 but it doesn’t always seem like the easy obvious choice. One of the reasons this combination works so well is that the blue stripe is in the same colour family as the skirt. But you could really do any type of stripe. I paired this skirt with a black and white horizontal stripe here. You could also do a contrasting stripe like green or pink. Sky’s the limit really.
