Three changes that improved my Teenagers skin

The teen years are known to come with growth spurts, hair grown and pimply skin. Hormones are all over the place and oil production is kicked into high gear. I know I had hormonal outbreaks and so does my daughter. Some pimples are going to come no matter what you do but you can make some tweaks that will minimize how many you have to deal with. These are three changes that improved my Teenagers skin.

Frequently change your face cloth.

Please tell me your teen isn’t washing their face like a 1990’s Noxzema commercial. You know what I am talking about with the water splashing all over the bathroom. There is nothing wrong with using a good old fashioned terry wash cloth but you need to switch it out more frequently. Some will say you need to change it every time you wash your face. But we will change it out every other day and that just works fine. You want to limit washing your face with a bacteria ridden towel. So get some more face cloths so you can easily switch them out more frequently.

Wash your hair first in the shower THEN wash your face.

I don’t know where I read this or if it was something served up to me on social media but it is game changing. To be honest it was something I never really thought about much because this was always the order in which I was doing things myself. But when I asked my teen they were washing their face first, then following up with shampoo and conditioner. So making this switch really works. The key is that washing in this order will make sure to wash away any shampoo or conditioner that might clog pores around the hairline or forehead. It also gives more time to rinse while you are washing the rest of your body.

Introducing Korean skincare.

First off my teen has been double cleansing for a while with the Clean it Zero cleansing balm. Double cleansing is great even if you are not wearing makeup because it gets rid of excess oil, dirt and sunscreen first. When she made this change it helped but wasn’t the only piece in the puzzle. For years we were using Paula’s Choice. And it was good but she still had breakouts on her forehead regularly. More than just monthly hormonal challenges. With increased duties shopping from the US I decided to switch up what she was using. It also helped that the Style Korean social media had shared some products that worked for acne. I found myself also liking the Anua cleanser. I find the toners more gentle than say Caudalie or the OG Clinque. The Purito cream is lightweight and not clogging. And the bonus is all of these products are much less expensive.

So with these three changes that improved my teenagers skin we still use these pimple patches and this pimple spot remover but much less frequently. We know there is going to be a monthly hormonal breakout. No amount of skincare or frequent face cloth changing is going to eliminate them completely. But we can minimize them and eliminate non hormonal pimples. And now there are more clear skin days than not.

Plus these are all great things to remember for adult skin too. If you have oily skin like me you will likely like all these products even though you aren’t a teen anymore. Korean skin care really seems to get oily skin or perhaps it is that they offer more options for oily skin.
