This is the first summer in a long time that I have been reading regularly. Sure I would read on vacation but for the most part since I had kids I haven’t been as big of a reader as I used to be. But my kids are older and I can zone out and devour a book without worrying what they are up to anymore. It is a trade off though. Spaces like this blog suffer when I have a good book (or five) but I am really enjoying losing myself to a good book again. This is everything I have read so far this summer.
Everything I have read so far this Summer
So first off I have read a bunch of Amber Eve books. If you like romantic comedies or if you liked the Shopoholic series by Sophie Kinsella then I think you will really like Amber Eve’s books. I started with Cool Girl Summer. It is a fun beach read. Then I went to the Heather Bay series. Here the books are a bit more intertwined because characters pop up in other novels but the stories themselves are fairly stand alone. The Book Feud is another stand alone novel. All of them are fun, easy breezy reads. A Scottish Cozy Mystery is the one with the most mystery but all of them have something to figure out and secrets to uncover. Amber is a Scottish blogger who started self publishing novels in the last few years. Because she is self published you have to buy her books through Amazon at the moment so I actually bought physical books for her novels. If you have Kindle Unlimited her books are included there.
The rest I read on my Kobo ereader. I love my ereader because I can stock it up an go. Never have to worry about lugging a large book around.
Cassandra Clare is one of my favourite authors. I have read the Shadow Hunters series more than once and have read all the prequel series etc. The Sword Catcher is the first novel in her new series. I liked it but I don’t know that it is as good as Shadow Hunters. I mean I read the first two books and will likely finish all of it but I don’t think it has the same level of literary magic. But it is also only 2 books whereas there is so much more depth to the Shadow Hunters world at this point. It is also more mature. Shadow Hunters is YA.
The Thursday Murder Club is going to be a Netflix movie and I can see why. It is exactly the type of cozy British Mystery I like watching on TV in book form. I will 100% read the rest of the series. Super fun easy read.
American Royals Reign is the last book in the series. It is a fun what if the USA had a monarchy instead of a democratic republic. I felt like this book didn’t have as much depth for Beatrice, her story could have ended in the last book for the most part but I liked how Nina and Daphne ended up most of all.
The Magician’s Daughter was a nice little fantasy story. It was good but probably not my favourite in this list but that doesn’t mean it was bad. This is a stand alone book, everything is wrapped up at the end.
And that brings us up to current. I just started Everytime I go on Vacation someone dies. Seems fun but I am only about a chapter or two in at this point. Can’t say if it is awesome or just good or DNF or what yet.
What have you been reading this summer?
