Preppy Hipster with a touch of Oxblood
This post is part of the
When all this oxblood madness started I just assumed that oxblood was just another term for burgundy or maroon.
Of course the side of me that googles everything decided I would check it out and see if there is a difference between the colours.
And the answer is of course there is a difference. Oxblood and Burgundy are actually on opposite ends of the redish colours. Burgundy has more purple or a blue base (think red wine) and Oxblood has more of a brown or yellow base. Maroon is somewhere in between and actually depends on what definition you see, but it is closer to red than the other two.
And I bet you are now thinking to yourself, Jane, nobody gives a poop about the definition of oxblood - tell us more about your outfit.
I called it preppy hipster because from the waist up it is fairly preppy with the chunky knit sweater and denim button down, but the waist down it is more hipster with the skinnies tucked into boots.

Are you down with the whole oxblood trend? Or do you just call it burgundy?

Ha! I totally thought oxblood was the same as maroon too! But I see what you mean about the blue-ish tones of burgundy versus the brownish tones of oxblood. It really is a cool color - and I LOVE how you're wearing it! The yellow with the oxblood is perfect.
Thanks! Yes I thought the yellow would bring out the yellow undertones instead of playing up the red/purple vibe. Sounds like I know what I am talking about right??
I love how you paired it with the yellow as well. I find with any of the dark reds (which are my favorite colors) you run the risk of looking too Christmas-sy or Valentines-y ( let's pretend for the moment those are real words! 😉 The yellow really brings out the different undertones as PP suggested. Well done!
Thanks Lynda!!
LOVE LOVE LOVE the entire look. Not sure if you understand how much I really like the way you styled this outfit.
Thanks Iva - means alot because you always look so well put together!

Love the oxblood paired with yellow. So fun! Popping over from Bloggers Do It Better.
Wow, love how you broke down the color. There are a lot of fab outfits that were posted on the BDIB challenge, but for many reasons this one is shaping up to be my favorite one. I am especially loving the pairing with the camel and lemon yellow color. Inspiring!
Thanks so much! There were so many varied outfits on the BDIB challenge so to be a fave that is huge.
I really appreciate your definition break down on oxblood! Everything in personal fashion is deliberate even down to color choices. So the differences really do matter 🙂
Love your look, so effortless.
