Sezane Justine Basket Bag Review

Summer is basket bag season and I have a few that I use. Some are made of sisal and are more durable others are made of a more straw like substance and tend to break down after a few seasons. They can come in varying shapes and sizes. The Sezane Justine Basket Bag Review will share what sets this basket bag apart from the rest and if it is worth the price tag.

Sezane Justine Maxi Basket bag

Sezane Justine Basket Bag Review

The Justine Basket Bag comes in three sizes. Regular, mini and maxi. The size I have here is the maxi size. The stripe versions only come in the maxi size. No matter the size the shape is this v style where the base is narrower then it goes out in a v to a wider top.

There are two sets of straps on the Justine basket bag. I found this hard to see the way it is photographed on the Sezane website as it is mostly shown with the shorter handle straps. But there are longer shoulder straps as well. The straps are set up so that you tuck the other set into the bag while carrying so they are out of the way.

There is no clasp or closure. There is no internal drawstring or anything. This is a classic basket bag that is fairly open. So if you are looking for a bag that keeps things safe this isn’t it.

The material is hand woven raffia. Many French basket bags are made of a palm leaf straw material and have a larger weave. They tend to fall apart or damage more easily. This basket bag is going to be much more durable and last for years. That said you can get a straw basket bag for less than $100 on etsy. This one is much more expensive. This one also has the fun red stripe.

Is the Sezane Justine Basket Bag worth it?

My knee jerk reaction is it is very expensive for a basket bag. But the more I look at comparable designers and bags it doesn’t seem that outrageous. Especially when you consider this is a handwoven raffia bag which would take much longer to make than your usual straw basket bag.

But that doesn’t take away from the fact that you can get a French Basket bag on Etsy for significantly less money. It could easily have a hole in it from wear and tear at the end of the summer but it would scratch the itch. Or for a similar price as the Justine Basket bag you could have a gorgeous leather bag.

But what brought me back to the Sezane Justine Basket bag was the stripes. I think if you are looking for a plain bag I would go with something less expensive but if you are drawn to one of the colours or patterns then I think it is worth it for getting something special.
