I was brainstorming posts the other day and I wanted to write something that would be more of a resource than just another outfit shoot. Then I realized that many of you might be looking to update your handbags for fall just like I did and I could help by reviewing some of the bags I have on hand that you can still buy.

I thought I would start with a Gigi New York Tote review.

Gigi New York Tote Review

I ordered the Gigi New York Teddie Tote back in February as something that would help me carry files back and forth from the office, lug my lunch and generally just get me through busy season without feeling like a bag lady.

The style above is in the white embossed leather in python print. The strap is long enough to go over your shoulder easily (even with winter layers) but not so long that you can’t also carry it comfortably in the crook of your arm.

There is a clasp to close the tote but no zip. There is a zip pocket and the standard phone pockets as well but essentially it is just one big compartment however the newer version of this tote has a center zip compartment which is great for throwing all your purse items and then you can use the open part for files or your laptop.

The leather that is used is full grain leather and all the Gigi New York bags are made in their factory in New York State. So if buying something made in North America is important to you, you can rest assured that a Gigi New York Bag fits this criteria.

The Teddie tote is pretty structured. It stands up nicely on its own and holds it shape. Unlike a bag that is made of softer leather that sort of flops over and is slouchy. I think if you are looking for a good quality work tote this is a good bet. While they have lots of classic colours Gigi New York is known for having vibrantly coloured leather bags as well.

There are a number of different tote styles that Gigi New York makes. The Teddie tote is a medium sized option; the Jessica tote is larger but with shorter handles and has an outer pocket. The Jessica tote also has a zipper top. The Tori tote is also larger with softer leather and is unlined. The mini Taylor is smaller but the most similar looking to the Teddie.

I am pretty hard on my bags, while this comes with a dust bag I really don’t use it, but there is minimal scuffing or wear and tear. I think the stiffness of the leather allows it to stand up to more wear and tear which is great for an everyday work bag.

I definitely recommend one of the Gigi New York Totes, the leather is great quality, they have lots of selection and I like that they are made relatively locally.
