Everlane Drape Trench Coat Review

Everlane has a few different trench styles. The original style, The Swing Trench, was quite short and not what I was looking for. I wanted something that was more midi length. Longer than what is the typical trench coat length which is above the knee. So when Everlane came out with their Drape Trench Coat I saw exactly what I was looking for. This is my Everlane Drape Trench Coat Review.

 

The Everlane Drape Trench is pretty minimalist in terms of details. The belt is tie only. That said I don’t think I have ever buckled the belt on my other trenches so that is a detail that is unnecessary in the long run. There are no epaulets on the shoulders nor buckle details on the sleeves. While I do usually gravitate towards these sorts of details I don’t really miss them at all on this trench. In fact if you want to roll the sleeves or push up the sleeves the fewer details the better.

The weight of the cotton is mid weight in my mind. It is not super thin, though it does tend to wrinkle. On the other end of the spectrum it isn’t a heavy weight that while having more structure could feel stiff and well heavy. The Everlane Drape Trench moves well and is comfortable. It is lined but not with any sort of interesting fabric.

The fit is supposedly oversized. I didn’t find it overly oversized. I am wearing a size large and it fit more true to size for someone who would wear a size 10 – 12. That said I have been wearing sweaters underneath not light layers so perhaps if oversized is what we call coats that accommodate a winter sweater in the sleeves without being uncomfortable than oversized it is!

I have been talking about the minimalist lack of detail but the back of the trench is full of detail. Stitching up at the back of the collar to provide some visual interest when you pop the collar. There is also a back vent with a button detail which I think is my most favourite thing about this trench coat after it’s longer length.

If you are looking for a reasonably priced quality trench that has a longer length this is a great option. I already had a couple of beige trenches so I chose the black option which I am extremely happy with because of the perfect length. I would love to see an olive green option, I think it would be a hit. Full disclosure Everlane sent me this trench to review but it was something I was eyeing before I got that offer. It ticks the longer length box that I have been searching for for years which makes it a must have in my opinion.
