Fall Fashion for Work

Fall Fashion for Work

Fall Fashion for Work can vary far and wide from mid September to the end of November. At the beginning of fall you might be able to get away with bare legs and trench coats or moto jackets. By the end of fall we are more likely wearing wool coats and big scarves.

The key to transitional season dressing is layers, so that you can easily manage the temperature swings during the day which can vary widely. Cool mornings might call for coats while late afternoons can feel more like Indian summer.

The first thing that I prefer to wear once the humidity lifts is wool pants. I find they look more luxurious and polished than a cotton or polyester pant and are much warmer. Cords and velvet are other cold weather pant options that really work. Just make sure you stick to cuts that maintain the professional look you want for your office.

Trench coats are great for early fall but as soon as the temperature dips to single digits I switch to wool. If you want to maintain the same look invest in a wool trench.

Make sure to buy coats that can accommodate sweaters or blazers underneath. I prefer thin merino wool knits that more easily fit under coats. Merino wool allows for extra warmth without the bulk.

It isn’t that I am against skirts or dresses in the fall but I do find pants are warmer. Unless you invest in some knee high or over the knee boots. Tall leather boots will keep your legs from feeling too frosty on cool mornings. Try longer lengths once the temperatures dip. Just like you switch your trousers over to warmer woolly fabrics you should consider doing the same with your skirts.
