DIY TRY; Coloured Rhinestone Necklace

I have been wanting a coloured rhinestone necklace ever since pictures of this Dannijo necklace began circulating the internet. Then I found out about Spike the Punch, but scoring one of those necklaces could take months and stalkerish tendencies.

So when I stumbled on this DIY from SWELLMAYDE I thought heeeyyyy I could do that. What made it even easier is that I had this rhinestone necklace from Joe Fresh that needed something more. It wasn’t quite big and bold enough on its own.

One of the things I learned that just using painters tape on the top wasn’t enough to keep the spray paint from leaching through to where I didn’t want the paint. Note to self TAPE WELL.

What I did try instead of relying on tape or paper to keep the spray paint from going where I didn’t want it to go was to use a paint brush. I just grabbed one of the many that we have lying around from the kiddie watercolour sets. This allowed me greater control to place the paint where I wanted.

Colouring the other rhinestones with the marker was much more fun but more time intensive. I like the contrast between the opaque and clear colour. My DIY TRY turned out pretty well I think!

I used a Joe Fresh necklace that I got on a 50% off sale around Christmastime. But there are lots of vintage rhinestone necklaces at places like Gadabout or other local vintage shops if you are in or close to Toronto.
